Trauma Informed Supervision

What can you expect from me as your trauma informed supervisor/consultant.

I work from a premise that we are all doing the best that we can with the burdens we carry and at the same time I see it as vital that as practitioners we are working to be the best that we can be for ourselves which then automatically translates to clients. In Dialectical Behavioural Therapy the dialectic of Acceptance and Change is part of the model.

They are seemingly opposite. However, in order to change we need to first accept where we are. I see it as essential that we do this from a place of compassion. If we can accept and be accepted for where we are now from a place of compassion; and then be helped to understand how we got there it enables far more capacity for positive change.

According to what you are looking for; I will guide in a collaborative IFS informed way through teaching; creativity through role play/externalising etc; exploring clients and therapists parts; encouraging; supporting; working with areas of stuckness; working with what comes up in the relationship between us. (This is not an exhaustive list).

I will also work with and if necessary, help you to recognise and address any risk or potential safeguarding needs regarding your clients as client safety has to be number one priority in the work we do together. While I will not be taking direct responsibility for your clients, I do hold responsibility to share any concerns I may have with you about yourself or the client. I will always endeavour to do this from a self-led place.

I will also contract with you when we first start working together so that we are both working from a shared agreement and understanding with each other. While Supervision is not therapy, I do hold as important to be aware of any parts that may be coming up for the therapist/supervisee in relation to their work with their clients and/or within the supervisory relationship. As a supervisor I am open to (with explicit permission from you as the supervisee) to work with and explore these parts. However, there is a boundary between this, and personal therapy and I deem it important that anyone I work with is either in their own personal therapy or has had in depth personal therapy over a period of time.

Trauma Informed Supervision

If you are here because you are looking for training or education around working with trauma rather than supervision/consultation for specific client work, then I can discuss with you and tailor make what might be needed.

I can offer regular supervision or both regular or one-off consultation to therapists trained in IFS; EMDR; CBT. (My primary working models are EMDR and IFS).

I can offer supervision/consultation/training to any individual or group working in mental health who want/s to improve their working knowledge of trauma.

I can supervise or consult with groups of individual therapists/mental health workers/volunteer therapists/helpline workers either privately or within relevant organisations.

I can consult with larger organisations in relation to the impact of trauma on themselves or others.
